Post Offices to start mobile money transfer

Kerala in the new phase to transfer money instantaneously to the families back home for an emergency even without a bank account. The Department of Posts has tied up with BSNL to launch the new service for money remittance through mobile phone. The pilot project will be launched in the Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, and Kerala postal circles.

Customers can avail themselves of the mobile money transfer facility by approaching any one of the designated post offices. The money transfer is carried out using mobile phones at both ends. All the recipient has to do is approach the post office at the destination to receive the money The sender would have to send the PIN to the recipient through a text message who would be home delivered the money after verification of the PIN on his mobile. The recipient could also go to the Post Office and collect the money. The charges for mobile money transfer will be the same as it is on the traditional money order — five per cent of the remitted amount
